Our Projects

At MIC Check, we believe in the power of community, creativity, and resilience. Our projects are designed to engage, empower, and uplift youth through mentorship, leadership development, and innovative programming. By combining education, arts, personal development, and community engagement, we create safe spaces for youth to learn, express themselves, and grow into leaders of change.

Our initiatives focus on supporting Black youth and other vulnerable communities in Scarborough and surrounding neighborhoods, providing them with the tools they need to navigate challenges and thrive. From violence prevention programs to life skills development, our projects are evidence-informed and designed to meet the real needs of our communities.

Denim Hearts Project

A transformative program that combines art, fashion, and leadership development to empower youth. Through workshops, discussions, and hands-on activities, participants design custom denim jackets, earning patches that represent their achievements while gaining conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.

FootPrintZ Project

A mentorship and life skills initiative that provides young people with the guidance, training, and support they need to overcome obstacles and build confidence. Workshops cover mental health, financial literacy, stress management, and more, equipping participants with practical skills for success.

Kicks Against Violence

A 12-week school-based program aimed at reducing violence among girls in grades 10-12. Through workshops, discussions, and creative projects, participants explore topics like domestic violence, bullying, goal setting, and empowerment. The program concludes with a custom sneaker design activity, where each participant receives a pair of personalized sneakers as a symbol of their growth and commitment.

Back-to-School BBQ & Resource Drive

A community-building event where families gather to enjoy food, games, and entertainment while receiving essential back-to-school supplies. The event features raffles, giveaways, and access to community resources, helping ensure that youth start the school year prepared and supported.

Vision Board Night

A powerful gathering where 40 young women come together to use art and storytelling to create vision boards for their future. The event includes discussions on domestic violence, healthy relationships, safe sex, and harm reduction strategies, fostering a space for healing, goal setting, and empowerment.

Youth Drop-in

Our Youth Drop-in program provides a welcoming and supportive space where youth can connect with peers, access resources, and participate in activities that promote well-being, belonging, and community involvement.

Restorative Justice

The Restorative Justice initiative centers on community healing, accountability, and conflict resolution. Through workshops, dialogues, and partnerships with justice stakeholders, we aim to equip youth with tools to address harm and build restorative pathways forward.
